Hand-painted batik by Australian artist, Robert Moore. Moore paints each swath of fabric by hand, using the traditional batik wax-relief technique, only re-interpreted and re-imagined. Cotton or Cotton/linen blend cover; feather/down insert. On a recent trip to Bali, we spotted two of RobertÕs watercolor paintings in a cafŽ and decided instantly to track him down. Perched near the ocean, his studio was in an antique Balinese hut next to Deus Ex Machina, a custom surfboard and motorcycle shop. Born in Australia, Robert (a.k.a. Bob) moved to Bali to write music, surf every morning and, as he says, make things. Oil paintings, watercolors, line drawings in pencil and ink, hand-painted batik fabrics, hand-cut wood block prints; even surfboardsÑyou name it, he creates it. And we scooped up everything we could get our hands on.
