Untitled by Jennings Tofel

This is an historic watercolor by Jennings Tofel (1891-1959). Tofel was a important New York painter who worked in the Expressionist style of the time. Tofel was friends with Georgia O'Keefe and Alfred Stieglitz (who sent him to Paris for a period in the 1920s). His work is in the permanent collections of the Smithsonian, the Whitney Museum of American Art and many other significant art institutions. This piece comes from his 1940s/ 50s era and is very representative of his figurative compositions. It is presented in a restored period frame, floating museum style on linen mats using archival framing techniques.
