About Us > Q+A with Serena >
Who is your greatest inspiration?
My grandmother was an amazing painter and sculptor. My home is full of her work and it’s a daily reminder to stay true to my own artistic vision in whatever form that takes.
Life before Serena & Lily?
Painter. Textile Designer. Color Consultant. My last project before I met Lily was a line of fabrics and pillows that I hand block-printed (but not in India— in California!). They sold through interior designers and home boutiques.
What’s the best part of your job?
That I get to be creative in some way every day. That I get to collaborate with people who share a similar aesthetic and vision. And that I get to travel the world to gather inspiration and partner with artisans I admire.
What do you collect?
Vintage jewelry. Art and design books. Scarves and textiles from all over. I’m most interested in objects with a story and tend to collect things that mean something to me in some way.
Last three stamps on your passport?
India. Vietnam. Turkey.
How would you describe your home?
Personal. Colorful. Lush. Lived in. You could say it’s always evolving. There’s almost always a new project in the works, a new paint color being considered, a new piece of art or furniture being worked in.
Go-to accessory?
My beat-up YSL Mombasa Bag. It’s perfectly worn and has so much character.
Perfect day?
Sunshine, ideally . . . Running around with my kids, making them laugh, paddle boarding if I’m lucky. Wrapping up the day with good food, good wine, good music, good friends.
Favorite indulgence?
Yes.
At the end of the day, what do you value most?
The moments and memories I create with family and dear friends.
