Entitled "Billy Funkhauser" this 1971 oil on canvas portrait is by San Francisco painter, Jack Freeman (1938-2014). Freeman painted many portraits of San Francisco locals during the 1970s with an expressive stroke and palette. He studied at the High Museum of Art in Atlanta, with Oskar Kokoschka’s School of Vision in Austria, and received his MFA from the San Francisco Art Institute in the late 1960s. Freeman kept a studio in San Francisco’s SoMa neighborhood, just a few blocks from Lost Art Salon, for nearly forty-five years. Framed in a contemporary maple-wood frame with a grey wash.

Hand-picked by Serena & Lily from Lost Art Salon's Collection, a renowned San Francisco-based resource for original 20th century works of modernist, vintage, antique, and contemporary art. We like to think of the Lost Art Salon pieces chosen for our Serena & Lily Art Collection as being “twice curated”.
